Check engine light

I'm adding to my list of problems with my car. The check engine light is on. A co-worker said this can happen if the gas cap isn't tight. I checked it and its was tight.
Its at the dealer now, but does anyone know what else might cause this?

we'll need more info than that...it could be any number of things without more info...that only narrows it down by one thing...

what problems did it do before or during when the light was on? did they tell you any codes they pulled?

OK I got my car back this morning. The tech found code 2157. They replaced my purge Valve. I don't have a clue what that means.

Well, they told me it was just the airbag sensor from the recall, and when i got in my car the light wasn't on anymore. About half way home it came back on. So, i dont know wtf is goin on now. My seatbelt was broke and they had to order a new one. So ill just have them check it out when I take it back to have that put in.

My check engine light is also on right now and I took it in and they are also replacing the purge valve. I wonder if they will issue a recall if this gets common or will they just fix them as they malfunction. I notice a little sluggishness with this piece not right too. At low RPM the power seems to be even less. Also my gas mileage seems a little less as well. Might just be my imagination.

did you have to pay for anything or was this covered by warrenty? how many miles did you have on your car when this happened?
