My dealership cut a 9 inch square in my brand new mazda 3, I took it in for an oil change "free oil changes for life" and they cut a big square out of the skid plate/splashguard for easy filter access!!!

as it turns out there is a hole for the filter on my 2006 mazda 3 2.3ltr but its in the wrong place, so they cut a chunk out to find it, maybe it lines up with the 2.0 ltr engine I dunno, but it seems my original skid plate is wrong. Wierd.

The hole is not in the wrong place. It was not put there to allow access to the filter unfortunately but was put there to allow for oil leak inspection on the final assembly line. That still does not excuse them cutting a larger hole so they do not have to remove the engine undercover. It is only held on with 7 small bolts and takes a whopping extra minute to remove. Since they modified your vehicle without your consent, I would say they owe you a new engine undercover.

Skid Plate is under warranty. Mazda is fixing and or replacing my plate today, because it seems to be missing 5 bolts. Every time you get an oil change and they take off the skid plate, the bolts get more and more stripped. So the eventual fall out and or break.

If you happen to be out of attentive, Mazda quoted me 20.00 to fix it.
