I just bought my 2nd Mazda 3 the other day. It had the same stereo as my 04i but a 6disk changer.
Im somewhat a audio freak and have come not to expect much from my OEM radio. However, when I turn the volume above 30 all the base disappears and it sounds like a cheap set of headphones. Now the funny part.... When the auto volume level gets triggered by my speed the base returns and sound like the typical OEM, not good but ok. It usually stays ok unless I touch the volume up or down. Then it reverts back to crap. So Ill bump the auto volume level knob up or down a point and the base returns.
Needless to say I got them to put a new headunit on order. I really hopes this fixxes it. I want to install a JL Cleansweep and some better drivers but this needs resolved 1st.
With any luck maybe Ill get the headunit that allows the trip meter and MPG to unlock.. :P
Has anyone had issues with the OEM radio (6disk non Bose)?[/b]

<span style="color:navy">IIRC the '08's had this issue and your dealer should already know about it. I hope they are not asking you to pay for the replacement?
Also, it should be said that the 6-disk changers are known for problems after they get a few miles under their belt. Be aware of this in a year or two. The single-disk unit is much more reliable.
I was actively looking to "upgrade" mine at one time. I am now glad that I was not able to find one at a price I could justify.
