hi,
hopefully i've found the right place to ask this. i didn't see a mechanics section, so we'll see.
what i have is an 03 3 that was wrecked a few years back. it ran fine for a while after the repairs but now i'm having major issues and i know only so much about newer mechanics. i've rebuilt several old muscle cars and jeeps, but this one's got me. this car to this point for the last year or so has been on the back burner because my wife and i both have newer vehicles, but we've just sold one of them, so i need to get this beast back on the road.

when i go to start the car in the morning, or any time it has sat for a while and cooled, its almost impossible to get to start. it turns over, but just won't fire. after a few minutes of that, it'll usually hits. once it starts however, it revs up and down, from about 800rpm or so to 3 or 4k. if during this time, you try to rev it up yourself, it'll die. you can give it a minute, and usually are able to drive it, but you look like a 15 year old kid learning to drive with it reving up and down the way it does. once the operating temperature gets up, it smooths out some and runs "OK". not good, but its drivable.

i've had it "fixed" twice buy a local mechanic, but after a short time the problem comes back. thats been over a year ago now however and i can't remember what it was he did. whatever it was, it obviously wasn't completely the issue because the problem came back both times. i live in a relatively small town, so my options for professional help are limited. that's why i've decided to just take it on myself and hopefully find some direction here.

also, if you know of any other site of forum that may be better suited for this kind of question, please direct me that way.
i need to replace some interior parts as well if you have any suggestions for places to find those.

thanks for the help!

1. It could be a vacuum issue. Check your vacuum hoses.
2. It could also be electronic, ECU problem.
3. If a lot of miles, maybe O2 sensor.

Does "Check Engine" Light come on at all?
