The power steering in my 2010 Mazda3 (automatic) is loud when idle. I'm pretty sure it's the electo motor for the power steering. At red lights I can "turn it off" by pulling up one notch on the parking break. I can also turn it off by putting it in park. I can change the pitch by turning a lot when driving very slow in a parking lot. It's one of those things that once you notice it, it bugs the **** out of you. I especially hate that I can hear it at red lights. This is not a Horton hears a Who king of noise, this is I'm-a-cheap-car-listen-to-my-power-steering kind of noise. I thought Mazda's were better than this..
