A crucial factor for these belts to work is through tension. Serpentine Belt may be put to higher tension without stretching, reducing slip while increasing belt life and mechanical efficiency. To maintain this grip, a belt tensioner is needed. But if the tensioner is not adjusted regularly, the belt gets loose and starts slipping, making a whistling sound. And with improper tension, excessive heat, engine oil leaking onto the belt increase wear, the serpentine belt may break eventually. you have to replace it sooner.
