I know this is a bit delayed, but seeing how you're from MN, 0w-20 grade oil is what you want to run year round in your Mazda3. 0w-20 is only available in synthetic, since regular mineral (dino) oil can't be refined down to 0w grade. A lot of 2011 cars are now 0w for fuel economy reasons (less friction when the oil hasn't warmed up to operating temp.) so you're going to have more options at the stores in the future. That being said, I'm in CT and run 5w-20 full synthetic in my Mazda3 (5w-20 can be used if you want, also keep in mind 5w-20 was the recommended oil for the 2010 Mazda3 and the motors are the same for 2011). You can find more info on this on mazda3revolution or mazda3forums too.
