Default Bizarre air conditioning problem

I have 2006 Mazda3 Touring 5-speed (2.3). For the most everything has been wonderful with this car, but in the last two months a very strange problem has crept up.
Normally the a/c on this car works great. In fact it still works great even now, except in the rain.
Yes. For some reason, if I'm driving along and it starts to rain, about one or two minutes after the rain starts, the a/c stops blowing nice cool dry air at me and starts blowing warm humid air. I have to turn it off. Then, after the rain stops, it takes it about five minutes or so to get back to blowing cool dry air again like it should.
Anybody had this problem before? Any ideas what might be causing it?
I know what isn't causing it: the wipers. I'm a fan of rain-x so I don't necessarily cut the wipers on every time it rains, especially in light rain, and in any event if the wiper motor was causing problems I certainly don't run the wipers for five minutes after the rain stops. It's also not interference with the lights, since the a/c works just fine at night.
The local dealership is not, um, one of the most honest places in the world, to put it nicely, so I'm sort of hoping I don't have to take it to them to get service.

How long do you have the car and how many miles? Have you ever recharge the AC system?

My buddy had this problem w/ his M3, there might be an issue w/ the wiring for the outside sensor circuit.
