If you're talking about the original RX-7, those were built for economy first - that such measures happened to be good for performance as well was merely a side benefit. And a very good one at that, as I recall from my single-digit years in the (tiny) back seat of one.

I just got 93 grade gas a couple days ago for 2.01...not bad
