Brand new 2008 CX-9 AWD. At 1100 miles I hear the loudest noise I have ever heard a car make... like someone taking a baseball bat and striking the underside of the vehicle. Take it to dealer... can''t reproduce sound nor do they find anything wrong. At 1400 miles feels like right side tire is going flat... strong vibration. Take it to dealer... cant reproduce sound and can''t find anything wrong. At 1800 miles baseball bat sound again. I record sound with cell phone and play it for tech. Next day I am informed that the "carrier bearing" is bad. No parts in the country and they will not be able to get one for 7 days.

I''m not much of a gear head... should I be concerned about this problem on a brand new vehicle. Will it spell trouble down the road. Is this a common problem?? Thanks for any advice!!

You migt just have a lemon car I would ask for a nother Mazda.
Depending what state you live in you have 30 days, .In meaning that time frame if your car starts to act up you can get a replacment.

Okay... so go to pick up my CX-9 yesterday which was supposed to be ready on July 14th. Receptionist gives me a funny look like why are you here. I ask about my car and she says "I haven't seen your part (carrier bearing) come in yet." She goes back to parts dept. and checks and comes back and informs me that part is now on backorder until July 21. Car will have been in shop for about 25 days of the 1st 2 months of ownership. And, apparently, to fix this problem is quite a job... pull the front drive shaft off the vehicle... I asked the service manager if any of his technicians have ever done this repair before... no. Any advice??

If you can give the car back to them and get your money... Do it and don't think twice.

I have a 2001 Mazda Millenia and to be honest after I tried Toyota and Honda, Mazda is the worst Japanese car along with Nissan (Maxima & Altima).

So much problems and so much repairs. If you click on the main forum page of this site and look at each Mazda model. Look how many posts are there for each kind... It kinda tell me which ones have so much problems and which has less. There are almost 10,000 posts for the Millenia. Wish I knew before I buy... The good looks of the car fool you lol.

If they don't take back your car ( Which probably they won't do ), try to switch it... Maybe it's a lemon car like others said... Or at least to give you a temporary replacement just so the damage won't become worse.

Also since you said that the part is back ordered or delayed now, I feel that other people are having the same problem as well... And soon a recall will occur if everyone complains loud. Ofcourse they won't tell you that other customers are having the same issue... They will lie to avoid a recall.

At the end, if you love the car then you have to bear the pain.
