Hey Mazda5 fans and owners. Who loves their Mazda5; even through the rough times of month and a half recalls and 2 weeks to get a flat tire changed and then pay $170 or so (ok thats just me probably)? I still love mine. Anyways...I am having a front end problem, not vibrations or anything but a crunching rubbing kinda noise. I've had it in the shop 3 times now and they haven't figured it out. I'm getting impatient and Mazda still has no solution. I'm wondering if anyone else has this noise or has even had it corrected. please let me know at cws2003@hotmail.com. thanks and if you have any questions please feel free to ask me. I have a carbon gray touring model with navigation and 14,000 miles. thanks again.

That sounds like the same problem I am having with my 2004 MPV. I have had mine into the shop 2 times now and they can't find what is making the noise. It has something to do with putting on the brakes right after I put it in forward or reverse. It also makes the noise if I go over a big hump int the road or railroad tracks. I have even taken the mechanic with me to hear te noise but he still couldn't figure out what was making the noise. I am awaiting new rotors but they are only making a guess at what is causing it.

That is strange. I have had new stabilizer links replaced and the bushings for body flex loosened. I can't believe it is happening on an MPV? I don't even think they have anything in common. lol. what is Mazda doing? I need to contact Mazda headquarters I guess and see what the heck is going on. It is embarrassing in a brand new car I brag about and to Mazda. Thanks for the info and let mwe know if you hear anything else.

try seeing if the Mazda 3 guys are having the same problem. I don't have that problem with my 5 (hopefully I never have that problem) but since the car is pretty much a Mazda 3 with a different body, you can narrow it down. If the Mazda 3 guys aren't having that problem, tell them (Mazda or shop) to look at everything that is different on the 5 than on the 3. Just a thought. Hope it gets fixed soon. Goodluck.

hey man thanks for the input. ive tried everything including talking to mazda headquarters. its so frustrating. i go over dips in the road and all u hear is like a rubbery gringding kinda noise. and on uneven pavement (like the roads in downtown cleveland) there is a rattling in the front end. im so sick of it. i just want it to go away. every car ive owned has had some kind of front end noise. its the most frustrating thing in the world. i just wish they would redesign the needed part and fix it. i guess they have had many problems of this. i hope it doesnt happen to you too. but for some reason i love my car still. haha.

Well that is good to hear!

We lived with a LOT of wierd noises on our 03 Saturn ION(the vehicle we're trading to get our 5). We loved the ION but I figure it can't be much worse in the peculiar-sound-effects department.

I've had my Mazda 5 now for just under two weeks and today I experienced a front end noise...I was in the drive thru in a long line of cars and put the car into park (I have an auto touring model)...when i put it into drive again to move foward the first time I heard a kind of winding noise like a fan had come on, but when it came on the car kind of moved a little with it...The same thing happened when it went off about 30 seconds later...Then after what seemed like another minute or so with just my foot resting on the brake with the car in drive the noise came back and shut off about every 30 seconds...

I haven't noticed any front end noise over bumps or anything yet, but I'll keep my ears opened for sure...I love this car so much and I'd hate to see it have a problem like evry other car I've owned...

Our '06 Touring Manual (JM1CR293860108869) makes a loud rubbery graunching noise when its front suspension goes thru large deflections like over a speed bump. Kind of like a giant squeegee would sound. However, it does it only in wet weather. If the streets dry out thoroughly enough (which hasn't happened here in Seattle much the last couple months) it quiets right back down. And it never happend during our June-October dry warm spell. Since it relates to wetness, I am assuming nothing serious is wrong, just a poor choice of rubber material in the bushings or something. Maybe it can be solved with the right kind of grease in the right place. But I don't want the dealer to "experiment" on my car as a single case trial and error. I'm trying to find out whether there is a service bulletin coming out, and so forth, before I schedule a service appointment.

Same here in all conditions.
Our 06 at 15300 makes this 'squeegee' sound anytime we go over a speed bump or when the front end goes through a large compression. Added to that is the sound that a loose plastic piece would make! Had it checked out, called it a cold weather noise. That's all good, except that last winter the car was smooth as

Good luck,

EA

Have you taken your car in for the noise? I would just like to hear what other dealers have said. I'm not sure if I wrote this originally but I took it in 3 times a year ago and they finally told me they were working ona new "updated" part for the noises. So in the summer of last yer they finally called me to schedule an appointment to get the "new" parts on. Well they put the ew ones on and it still made the same noises after about a month or 2. I do not know what to do. Let em know if you got rid of the noises. Maybe the dealer put on bogus parts???
