Hello,

I just bought a 1990 Mazda 323 LX last monday. The original 1.6L is gone and now reside a 1.8L SOHC from a 92 Protege in it...

I looked at the sticker under the hood and their's like 6-7 choice of engine oils, why is that? What was the recommended oil for a brand new 92 Protege at the time? I wan't to use the same oil to see if the engine is using or leaking any oil...

Thanks!

If you have choices, it depends on climate. Cold climates mean thinner oil weights while hot climates call for higher viscosities.

Hi,

If you don't get an answer on these forums, you could always call the local Mazda dealership or Mazda Corp. and they should be helpful. I know for the Protege's the recommeded oil is based on what temperature of weather you are having. 10w30 for summer and 5w30 for cold weather. Sorry for not being too much help.
