I have an 89 Mazda 323, It has an automatic transmission, Ive been having shifting problems and now when I put the car into gear NOTHING happens in any gears. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Sorry to hear of your trouble. There might be a couple things it might be at rough guess without fully taking a look at the car from a good mechanic, but it sounds like either the auto clutch gear- not sure what its actually called, but it controls the shifting to the proper gear, or could be the transmission selection sensor not telling/finding what gear is selected. Those are too basic suggestions, the worst case is that your tranny is gone and will need a rebuild.

Have you checed the level of the trany fluid?

I put the car into gear NOTHING happens in any gears.not sure what its actually called, but it controls the shifting to the proper gear, or could be the transmission selection sensor not telling/finding what gear is selected.

There some instructions that you can follow.

Park your car on level ground and start the engine, leaving the gear in neutral or park. Wait for the engine to warm up. Find the ATF dipstick in your car. Try to remove all the dipstick, I think it will be very long. Wipe the dipstick with rag, and replace it. Put the dipstick all the way back in when you are done.
