"Steve says the conversion was a relatively easy one requiring the simplest of radiator bracket mods, a pair of thermo fans, custom engine and trans mounts, a custom tailshaft and a 2JZ sump (which allowed the standard cross member to remain intact)"

"A custom one-piece 3 inch tailshaft joins a Mazda RX-7 diff with the factory viscous LSD mechanism."

finally someone whos done the HC up right. the ride height is perfect & look at that camber up front. id like to see some video on this car.

hi, you guys have obviously seen my 929 on the net. It has the 1jz conversion. I now also have transplanted a C4 auto with trans brake and 4500 stall converter which has transformed the car into an absolute animal. Less lag, instant shifts, and finally something that will enable me to run some quick times with. I have fitted suspension, diff etc to my car years ago and with great success. Certain things i may be able to help people with if they have any questions. I never realised how popular these cars were getting, AWSOME.

1jz 929; great to have you on our site.

It seems that the popularity of the HC has blown up in the last year or so. Its only going to get better. 4 years ago when I picked up mine I knew this was eventually coming. These cars are great.

I like the fact that you have gone for the clean sleeper look. Those polished 15" Luce rims look great and the stance is perfect. Going one tone paint was something these cars need.

I have a few things that I would like to ask you since it is of importance to our community to have you here.

How long have you had your HC ?

What inspired you to drop the 1JZ under the hood (did u have to 3L SOHC) ?

I would like to know more about using the RX7 LSD, is it a straight swap ?

What car is a C4 tanny originally found in ?

How long ago did you retrofit the JIC coils ? Do you have pictures of the custom top plates with camber adjustment. The positive camber up front is a problem for the HC.

Do you have any videos of yuor car in action ?

Are there any other custom fabricated modifications that the article didnt mention. This is your intro.

ok, i have had the 929 for nearly 3 years and it was immediately that i put the jic coilovers in because i realised that i would have to do something about the front camber problem to fit the size rims i wanted at the desired height i wanted also. top camber plates i cut myself exactly replicating the jic plates except for the wider hole spacings. also the rear tops have to be made as well with three bolt holes instead of two.

i originally contemplated putting in a vg30det, then i thought about a 20b, then because so many people have been using the 1jz and getting such good reults power wise it was the most sensible option.

rx7 diff is 3.9:1 from a series 5 and it was just a fluke that the rx7 centre bolted straight into the 929 housing. a lucky guess on my behalf.

the C4 tranny is out of an earlf ford eg: mustang, falcon 60's - 80's. mine is fully manualised and running a b&m pro-ratchet shifter.

i have no videos of my car just lots of pictures.

i have custom made many parts for my car for different purposes however everything i have done has been e fairly straightforward exercise. manifolds, exhaust system, cooler pipes etc i have fabricated myself including crossmembers.

hopefully i have answered your questions in enough detail, for me i did not realise at the time of building my car that there was anyone interested in these cars and had no help with any of my modifications. it is great to see that the 929 has such a cult following around the world because over here in Australia it is really just an old grandad **** box in most peoples eyes

Haha, I discovered my 929 from my Grandma actually!

I am very interested in seeing very detailed pics of the suspension install, and even the motor install. I will be going 13b for the time being and then I will prolly go back to my Supra roots with a 2JZ, especially if you've proven that the 1JZ fits.

Since you attacked the suspension first for the proper stance you wanted, did you run larger wheels before ? If so what specs. I think the camber is so shitty up front. How much drop do you have, its lower than mine for sure, rear seems to be 2.25" & front easily over 3". I would also be interested in seeing pics of your custom camber plates/top hats.

How are you dealing with clearance issues ?

I have been inspired by the VG30DET to turbo the DOHC. It does make so much sense to use the Toyota motor, the aftermartket virtually has everything for it.
VG30DET

Its good to hear that the FC LSD is a straight swap. I guess it wasnt a fluke, we can thank Mazda.

I would also like to see lots of pictures of the exhaust, i/c piping, etc.

These forums were real slow from 03-05 but they have picked up in the last year and a half. As the car become cheaper it will become more popular especially with the aid of the drifting and VIP scene which leads me to my next question.

Would you condsider rolling on more aggresive, better fitting wheels ? Im sure the sleeper look is great but thats something you can always go back to. Your car has great stance, its pretty much what I desire.
