Disclaimer: The seat back on the Mazda Millenia is poorly made and easily damaged. For the “first time remover” it is almost guaranteed that removal will damage the clips and/or seat back. The contributors of this write-up take no responsibility in any damage or loss that may during the use of this information. It is purely for your own education and knowledge and to assist you in removing the seat back with minimal damage and cost to you.

This write-up is done in conjunction with Ken inn. I do not take credit for the pictures or information contained within. I am only consolidating and documenting this information to make it easier to understand the steps that need to be taken in order to perform the underlying task.

In the first picture here you will see the first few clips that need to be removed. This picture is of left side. There are exactly two of these clips on either side. To expose the clips you will need to press firmly on the side of the upper seat cushion. To remove them you need to gently pry them off the wire frame with a small flat head screw driver.

This is a picture of the wire frame that holds the clips down. One clip is above that white plastic retainer and one clip is below in the square cut-out area.

With the two side clips removed you can GENTELY pull both wing parts apart and lift the ENTIRE panel upwards.

This picture is an overall of all the clips.

You want to slide the two upper and one lower clip off the frame. It’s very common for a person to pull the rear seat back away from the seat. If you do that you will certainly break those lower and/or upper clips off.

Reinstallation:

By pulling the seat back up and off the chair you will leave the two top clips on the chair itself. You need to pry them off the bracket and reinstall them on the seat back panel.

It’s a bit hard to see in this picture but one clip is already installed and ready to go. The other clip is just sitting next to where it needs to be slide back on.

That lower clip goes on first, then the top two, then the sides.

This is just a view of the side clips. One is installed and one is removed. It’s a good idea to reinforce the brackets with J-B weld or the like as seen in this picture. Its almost certain one or more will pop off while removing the seat backs and your going to need to fix it anyway.

careful with those stupid retarded clips. all mine broke off and the pieces that hold them on are fragile also and pop riveted in from the side the leather is. RETARDED design. I ended up using 8-32 screws and some screw caps to make it work.

I use a trick in conjunction to the above posts .. move the panel up-down..side to side just to feel" where the tight area is, dedicate some time to "see&feel" whats behind..good light is a must .. do the same again til u feel the panel is almost freed then pull up..do this with every panel u must remove in ur car..never fails.. Remember as pro installer I can't deliver a job in a worst condition than when it enter the shop ..
