I changed my axle the other night and it went very smoothly. I got most of my info on how to do it from here scattered all over many different threads, but I made a guide that sums everything up in one place.

I almost did, and probably would have, but I found a brand new axle that would fit by Dorset instead of a Reman. It seems like good quality, but if it does fail on me, I will replace with Raxles.

I was afraid to by the Cardone reman off Rockauto because I remember that yours didn't fit. Then the Dorset one came up on their site for around $60 and fit my chassis number so I bought it, now it is gone again. It was nice because I didn't have to worry about returning the core. I am hoping that it will last a while. The passenger side axle was replaced by a previous owner and has been fine for me so far. I don't know when it was done or what brand, but it also uses the larger than stock nut size so it is not Raxles.

It should last a while since its new. You pinched the nut right? You need to for the driver side.

I think it should last too. And I did pinch the end of the nut in.

Well.. Time to update: 2 months and 4k miles, the Dorset axle threw grease (not ripped, but from the edge where the clamp 'should' be sealing it tight), It has started making noise and is too far gone to save now. I would be saying to avoid buying a Dorset axle, but I don't have to because they conveniently went out of business. The good news is RockAuto is going to refund the money for the axle even though they don't carry them anymore and they will have to eat the cost themselves. I never expected them to do that, I was originally contacting them to ask if they had any contact info for Dorset so I could complain to them directly.

So, it looks like I will be going with Raxles (I should have listened to everyone the first time ). Luckily, I was lazy and never got rid of the original bad axle, so I will have a core to send Raxles AND the bad axle to send back to RockAuto.

Thanks for the guide - had a Raxle boot fail, so I'll be doing this shortly!

What do you mean by "pinching the nut"?

Tapping the nut into the groove with a screw driver and hammer. Just extra safety.
