What part are you not clear on? Just check the pics I posted above. The directional arrow is clear in the pics. Even if the paint is missing on your hoses, the direction should be the same.

Well, the part I'm not clear on is that both the hoses are missing the directional arrows. There isn't even a residual stamp impression on them. Both contain one-way check valves that are operating properly. What I need to know is:

1. Does the airflow move towards the engine or the vac pump, and
2. Does the airflow move towards trhe engine or the brake booster

You see, you may have arrows on your hoses, however, those arrows indicate the direction of installation and may not represent the direction of the airflow.

Please check this on your cars because if the check valves are jammed shut, or put back in the wrong direction... or even worse replaced with generic hose with no check valve, this WILL cause problems.

I bet this is a hidden gremlin on the 2.3s engines as it is not mentioned ANYWHERE.

ps: this post is for Gripdog to see if it helps with his ABV code in the other thread.

see pics attached. don't mind the hockey tape, I was taking the ABV off at the time
I have removed this line 3 or 4 times at one end, and each time I hear a "whoosh" of air. I was amazed because there were times the car had been sitting for a while, however I never investigated to try and find the reason for the high or low pressure condition.

Thats the brake booster line. It keeps the vacuum so that should the engine stops you will have 3-4 more pushes of power brake.

The direction of the arrows is the direction of the airflow.

Check both. They should all be flowing away from the brake booster.

So one flowing into the vacuum pimp, and the second flowing into the ABV valve. Just look at the pics. I don't get what's so complicated about it

by request, here is the schematic of the vac line with the part numbers.

red is the line

Green are the sections with check valves inside the hose.

PS: you will probably need to order these from mazda so be forewarned be prepared for sticker shock. $20-30 each.
