your joking right? There are tons of aftermarket upgrades you can do to a v6 mx3, dollar for dollar cheapest/most reliable and easiest swap for a v6 mx3 is to a kl-ZE engine swap its the jdm version of a kl-de, you will need to get a 1993 up probe gt or a mx6 computer to swap with yours but you can easily get 1 from a boneyard. There are some wiring changes that need to be done when you swap in the klze engine but its a 200hp 160ft lb torque engine, and it bolts up to your trans. Motor mounts are all in the same positions. If you opt for this swap then I highly recommend an upgraded clutch as well to help keep that trans turnin with it. You also have the option of going turbo after the swap, there are lots of kits out there greddy makes 1 for it. I recommend that if you go cheaper to ensure that you get the facts right, turbo applications require an upgraded fuel pump, better injectors and engine/fuel management, so don't think that the turbo is going to be a cheap 800 dollar upgrade. You get what you pay for with turbo's so make sure that you get a quality setup. If you had a 4 cylinder mx3 then I would recommend that you go bp-t, its basically the same engine as whats in the protege gt or the escort gt but turboed. Also adding a cold air intake and a set of good headers coupled to a catback exhaust helps out. FYI your engine is 130hp about the same as the escort gt or the protege gt.[/b]

If ya read my post correctly I said the "1.8 V-6 is limited in what you can do with it" I didnt say the whole car is limited , Yes you can do the KL-DE , KL-ZE , BP-T or BPD swaps after getting all the proper parts. If you are considering adding a turbo to a V-6 then I would highly recommend the KL-DE over the KL-ZE the KL-DE is a better turbo motor for its lower compression then the high compression KL-ZE. The 'MX-3' as a whole car has huge potential. You can even go AWD if you have the time , money and a spare GTX or AWD Protege or GTX sedan if you can get one imported through Canada. Also as a note if you do go turbo consider upgrading the 2,3,and 4th gears from the stock tranny with gears from a GTX tranny and adding a Mazdaspeed protege Limited slip diff then welding the final gear and pin to the diff.
