I took my 97 S for 60K maintenance and timing belt replacement. The total was quoted around $1100 and I was willing to fork over that much. Once I got home, I got the phone call from service manager. He said that they noticed additional problems. Some of them had to be fixed some of them highly recommended preventive maintenance stuff. So here we go:

Worn drive belts - replacement $260
Two cracked side engine covers - $300
Leaky valve cover gaskets (both) - $755
2 camshaft and 1 crankshaft seals - $123
Cracked passenger side engine mount - $295
Preventive water pump replacement - $280 (partial labor cost)
Preventive upper/lower and bypass radiator hose replacement - $520
Flush brake fluid - $90

Total estimated parts and labor cost (including timing belt and 60K maint.)- $3900 He offered to take 10% off the total. OUCH!

Five hundred bucks to replace radiator hoses? And $750 for valve cover gaskets?

So are they both made of titanium, or is the service performed by robots?

Duncan - gotta be kidding me

PS - 10 percent is only $390. That takes care of the engine covers and the brake fluid, at least...I'd shoot for 20 percent if I were you.

you should get the price brought down.... but you should get that service done too especially with an S model.... any preventative maintenance you can do will save you big time in the long run; especially if it concerns any leaks (trust me I speak from experience.) Also, with the S model you are going to pay a lot no matter what because people are scared of it + it's harder to work with than most any engine out there.

Yep, I have a hole in my pocket now. But what i thought was that I am planning to keep this car for a while. I have installed new stereo with speakers, besides I REALLY like this car. So I decided just to pay for it. I wanted especially to stop all oil leaks, and like Exterm8r said, I would save few grand in the future by doing it all now. One thing that I found out was that S engine is clearance engine, so if timing belt would rip, it would not damage the engine.

I guess, the better the car, the more expensive is the service.

thats insane, with my 30k service and a transmission flush I paid 580, the 60k should only be around 800
