I am wanting to get a new box for my MTX 5500's. The current box that I have is way too big. I've been looking at different boxes and was wondering what's the difference between the bandpass enclosurer boxes and just a subwoofer enclosure like the one I already have. Which is better?

As long as you have a common chamber for your port and it is ported right PORTED is the way to go.

actually ported boxes tend to be bigger than sealed (the one you have)...

if you want something smaller you probably need to get rid of a sub or be very creative like using the spare tire well or something

are you looking for more bass? if you go to a bandpass or even ported as compared to your sealed box you will get a deeper thump. Depending what kind of music you listen to you may want a tighter cleaner sound then stay with sealed. The smallest box you can get is going to be staying with a sealed box, i am not sure of the dimensions necessary for optimal quality with those speakers check out their website and configure your box around those numbers.

If that's a sealed box, then it gets no smaller unless you go with different subs or do an isobaric configuration, which will let you get away with half the box volume. Isobarics are half as efficient as a traditional sealed enclosures but have the same response (better response if its a manifold arrangement). That's totally custom stuff though and you can't typically go out and buy stuff like that, though.

i think she just wants her trunk space back, in that case get an angled box, something like this
keep in mind thats a truck box, the smaller the box, the less bass and more distortion your gonn ahave, if you do a box this size fill it with cotton, it basically tricks the woofer into thinking the box is larger

oh btw, bandpass is for a shitty setup, its made for subs that dont produce alot of bass, dont stick the MTX in a bandpass, now ported, thats a different story

Is the box pushed all the way back into the trunk or does it stick out like that because its too tall to be pushed all the way back?
