OK sometime early next year I will hopefully be upgrading my 02 Millenia's Bose radio. I have a head unit i can use right now if I need to, but i would like a new one.

- I need some kind of aux input such as a front headphone jack or rear RCA inputs. If the player does not have this, don't bother suggesting it...this is the #1 most important thing to me.
- I don't need or want XM or Sirius controls, I won't use it...
- I don't really need a tape deck, but if it's a double DIN unit and has it I can live with that...
- I would like to spend under $550 and I really don't wanna get it off ebay...
- If possible, I'd like to be able to lock the player or remove the face. Some kind of security measure that'll at least make me feel safer...lol
- MP3 capability is a nice thing, but I don't need that since I have an mp3 player already (I might upgrade this 15GB to 20GB though)
- CD changer controls aren't important, I don't plan on using one of those either...

When I upgrade I'm planning to upgrade 5x7's for the fronts (powered off the head unit), rear 6x9's possibly powered off the head unit or a seperate amp, possibly a 8" sub in the rear deck, and 10 or 12" sub in a sealed box...power-wise i'm eventually getting a red-top battery, possibly a 1-farad cap, the sub amp would prolly be a class D mono amp 400W+, the amp for the 6x9's and maybe the rear deck sub would be a multichannel amp...

can i use any stock wiring? or is that stuff too thin/cheap?

thanks

-Dave

you can use stock wiring but i suggest using the amp for all the speakers, or just the front ones.... you don't want to have amplified rear speakers because it will make it seem like all the sound is coming from behind you.... i believe your car has factory tweeters on the mirror triangles... you should look into upgrading those as well.... if you can fit 1 inch tweeters then get kicker r22's... if its 3/4 get r19's....

also if you plan on doing a powerful audio install, go for the yellow top instead of the red top....

i forgot to add the tweeters, yes i def. plan on upgrading those as well. I'm not looking for a powerful system, but i am looking for better than stock. I dunno how hard it is to take out the sub from the rear deck, but i'd like to replace it with a free-air 8" sub and put a bass blocker on it so it won't go below like 100Hz, then let the main sub get all the low stuff...550Hz down or something...

ideas on that?

still looking for ideas for the head unit....if i can't get one that works the way i need it to, then all hte rest of this is useless :|

i say leave the factory sub out.... it's just gonna rattle the deck... you're not gonna notice it anyway. i have one 12 and you can feel the bass....

i'd replace the factory sub, just would use the space for a sub to give more oomph in the ranges above the main sub but below the 6x9's...i dunno...

you should buy my 5-channel amp! i want to sell it cause i really have no need for it anymore... instead i'd like to buy a 2-channel amp just for my sub... and i also owe my bro some money

j-allan: Don, how can you sleep at night knowing your car is available to drive 24/7? Very, very tasteful mods, IMO, from the signal mirrors to the hids and engine compartment, well done!
Kat_Daddy: btw, i think plat still holds the milly crown here. Don is moving into the #1 contender spot though...
Roof: Don has the makings of a good padawan.
we will have to see where this goes before i take him under my wing
