Im lookin at upgrading my factory speakers and checking the specs on crutchfield. Im wondering if i have a speaker with an efficiency of 92 db at 40 watts will it perform the same as a speaker rated at 92db at 80 watts. If it sounds the same then it would be safe to say that the 40 watter is the best buy and better to use if i plan on pushing it with the head unit's amp????

Doubling input power gives a 3db increase in output, so 40 watts to a speaker with a sensitivity of 96db and 80 watts to a speaker with a sensitivity of 93db would have the same loudness. With a head unit amp, definately the higher the sensitivity the better.

What do you guys think about Pioneer speakers. Im lookin at some 6x8's and 9's to put in the doors. They look good on paper, but i dont know about their reputation in performance.

j-allan: Don, how can you sleep at night knowing your car is available to drive 24/7? Very, very tasteful mods, IMO, from the signal mirrors to the hids and engine compartment, well done!
Kat_Daddy: btw, i think plat still holds the milly crown here. Don is moving into the #1 contender spot though...
Roof: Don has the makings of a good padawan.
we will have to see where this goes before i take him under my wing

I love pioneer, I have there top of the line headunit which blows everything away, there amps are great, xm amazing, cd changers supurb, but even I have to say that in terms of speakers they leave some to be desired, quite frankly unless you change the headunit, or unless your speakers are blown, I can't recommend changing anything

I agree with BHR. Pioneer makes a lot of good products but speakers are deffinitely not one of them.

hmm Im looking at getting the Pioneer TS-G6840R and TS-A6960R. In the crutfield comp. chart they have very high db and low wattage requirement (30 and 40). they also have a broad frequency response range. So what could they be lacking? Theres others that have the same or better performance numbers but they require more wattage. Ill be pushing them wit a 22 watt rms Kenwood h.u. So wouldnt these be the better set. Im not looking for competition sound just a factory upgrade. Hopefully ill get more bass from these without distortion. Loudness is not my goal. Im just pouring out ideas please correct me if im headed the wrong way

Generally, speakers with a higher sensitivity require larger enclosures. Since you're using door panels and the trunk as air space, it really isn't an issue.
