LCD displays

I'm looking for an LCD between 4" and 10" for the car and need some suggestions. I have plans for an upgraded system, but without a good LCD it'd be useless to me.

-I DO need it to be able to display at least 800x600 pixels, preferably 1024x768 or better. If I must, I might be able to settle for 640x480 but I wouldn't be too happy about that.
-I DO need at the least a PC-compatible 15 pin VGA input or DVI input. (composite or S-video won't work well enough)
-I do NOT need it to be touchscreen
-I do NOT need it to be 12V, but it can be

I'm really only looking for the screen itself, nothing extra like a DVD player or flip-out screen. The thinner and lighter, the better. If i could work the LCD panels I have already, I would, but they are custom ones and I don't believe I can get them to work without some major modifications. They aren't worth it.

Any suggstions on screens are welcome, but I am trying to keep the costs to a minimum. I don't need this year's biggest hottest and best screen, as long as it has a PC compatable signal input and displays at least 640x480 on a small screen or 800x600 minimum on larger screens.

hmm, off the top of my head I can only think of alpine who has a few choices, I believe there is a sweet 1 thats a 7 inch screen and can be had for around 500 on ebay

when they say AV inputs, what the **** do they mean? i need to know the actual connector type... bah! I found a bunch for cheap on ebay but i'd need to know more bout them before buying and then finding out i can't use it

i know that with the 3 and 6 with bose packages, there are adaptors that can be used to add a kind of 'line in' input...would one of these work for the millenia's bose?

are you planning on building a car pc ,with nav,sat radio, etc ???

not sure how much that monitor will cost at the end of auction but you can get a similar type for about 300$

yeah mine will be a decently powerful PC (unlike most of the via C3-based ones) and will have at the least GPS, DVD player, 80-120GB hard drive, mp3, maybe some games, memory card reader, cd-recorder, wireless internet, remote, etc.

I'll be building a custom box for it...it's not gonna be a little tiny thing - it'll be one of my full-power systems made to run in the car. I don't really want it to go in place of the stock radio, i want the car to look bone stock - which other than lowering and rotors (coming real soon soon) and the exhaust, it looks perfectly stock when sitting there. My ideas for LCD placement reflect this, but i won't mention them just yet...

right now, i'm still thinking that playback will in fact be through the standard radio which might be upgraded later on. I'm not sure about that yet. I have a few ideas of what I want to do with the LCD, all of them but I will have to see about how they will fit in the places I'm thinking.

the first link i saw a bunch on ebay for around $240...but i think that the one i linked on ebay sounds about as good...i'll see where those top out and see if i can get one for the same price or better otherwise i'll just do a buy it now for $240

Yeah the via models are limited when it comes to power..
I have always loved the idea of in car pc since I read up on it last year..
I am suprise no one else on MW has on in their car...

where can you put an lcd that size, and still have the car looking stock??



do you plan on running linux or windows xp/ media edition??

I've been toying with the idea for over a year, however, at that time I didn't have a spare computer to do so with, the costs of LCD's were prohibitive, and the money it would have cost would have been substantially more for what I have in mind. I have done more research and can get this done a lot cheaper than I thought now. I also have more experience with case modding since then. I also have better access to tools.

I've been working on plans/layout, deciding what kinds of materials I want to use for the case, but now that i found out that the LCD can be a lot (LOT) cheaper than I thought, this will go through sooner.

anyone got cheap sources of Lexan? i'm gonna need some
