I have a P1000-1bd 1000 Watt Class-bd Mono Amplifier and (2)P3D412
12" Punch P3 4-Ohm DVC Subwoofer
The amp is rated @ 1000x1 @ 1ohm
The subs are 1 ohm stable. can I run these subs @ 1ohm? They are 500rms and running the amp to these subs at 1ohm will produce 1000x1rms. Does this mean each speaker gets 1000rms or do they both split to get 500rms? I was told that although they will run @ 1 ohm that I should not run them at 1ohm because I could risk damaging the speakers and blowing them. Is this true?

P1000-1bd :
250W x 1 @ 4-Ohms RMS
500W x 1 @ 2-Ohms RMS
1000W x 1 @ 1-Ohm RMS

Speakers are:
Power Handling 500 Watts RMS
1000 Watts Max
Impedance 4-Ohm x 2 <--I DONT KNOW THAT THIS MEANS)

Please help because right now I think I am running them only @ 4ohms and only getting 250rms (which im sure is not enough) according to the calculator. (i heard that under powering them could cause speaker damage as well)

Okay I'll just help you out a little and clear some things up. Saying the subs are "1 ohm stable" is kinda misleading. When you say "1 ohm stable", you should be referring to an amplifier. Now, since the subs are DVC (dual voice coil) 4 ohm subwoofers, you can run them at 1 ohm. The way you would do this is by wiring the subs together in "Parallel". Go on google and search "wiring diagrams for subwoofers" and make sure the diagram is demonstrating how to wire DVC(dual voice coil) 4 ohm subwoofers to 1 ohm, and not another impedance(which is another way of saying ohm). Wiring at 1 ohm will NOT hurt your subs in any way; It may however damage the amplifier if it is not 1ohm stable, but since the amp lists it's power @ 1 ohm it is stable that low. "Impedance 4-Ohm x 2" that basically just means there are two sets of terminals on the subwoofer. If you were to take it out of the box, you would see 2 positive terminals and 2 negative terminals. 1 pos. and 1 neg. for each voicecoil. The voice-coils are made in different impedances to allow more ways of wiring the subwoofers.

I might also add, underpowering a speaker, whether is be a tweeter, 6.5, or a subwoofer, will never damage the speaker. That is a some-what common misconception. When someone is underpowering a speaker, the tend to turn up the gains on their amp to get more power, which cause "clipping" on the signal that is sent to the subs. This clipping is what is damaging your subs. But, if your gains on the amp are set correctly, you're fine.
