1) ck trunk channel of tx, verify if u got to hear a "clunk" & a "click"..the click is a relay energized by the key less signal while the "clunk" is the sound of the solenoid..if u got both, the problem is in the latching assy (mechanical)
If no clik or clunk then ck tx and/or keyless unit..post back plz..
what is the "tx" abbreviation stand for?

The remote control works on the doors but not on the trunk even with a new trunk latch in. Do you think it still the keyless unit?

TX stand for: transmitter..also known as (AKA) "beeber"
we need to rule out the tx since it is the weekest point in this "chain" due to the way we treat them..
we need to do a trouble shooting to pinpoint were problem is.. then repair.
Working door locks & the fact that this modules rarely fail, make me think the K/L is working ok... as long as the "reciver" catch the appropiate signal emited by the tx..your tx has 3 buttons, one is trunk dedicated..under that piece of ruber there is a micro switch that could be bad...
plz do this..press only the trunk button in ur tx, ck for the clik-clunk sound..if no sound, chek tx..if no clunk use a test light at the solenoid & check...plz post back

Did I mention that both the tx and the door - trunk release button does not release the trunk?

I drove the car to a service center for diagnosis but it not a Mazda dealership. I use them because of their low price. Mazda dealer wanted something like $129 to diagnosis the problem or more. Not sure because they mention that as a beginning $129 and then hourly afterward.

They will not apply the diagnosis to the service repair anymore. But any advice I get to solving it will lessen my bill.

Trunk lid latch was damaged along with a loose wire made it not work!

Replaced with a secondhand trunk lid latch from Ebay and a new wire and it works like new again! Cost was acceptable too. Had work done at an independent family owned service center.

Lately my gas door doesn't open unless I tap it and hot the button a few times. The trunk always works.

I had the same issue and thought it was the actuator/solenoid, there's a manual release for the fuel door, get to it from the trunk. I made a video on how i Fixed mine(i got a 929 but it's excalty the same as the Millenia)
