89 B2600i heater
Hey everyone, I have an 89 B2600i and the heater does not work. Blower motor works great so it isnt that.
Its like air is not getting from the blower motor to the vents, not even defrost.
How hard is it to get into the venting and ductwork on these to see what's going on?
It is winter time here and I am not insulated at all and girls getting cold is not safe haha.
Any help or tips is appreciated, I'm running out if ideas. I even broke down and bought a "Wall-E Heater" that plugs into the cigarette lighter and it's not near enough to keep me from freezing to death lol.
Hey Nikki... I'm usually quite reluctant to suggest any diy car fixes. In this case I am going to suggest a search technigue that does not involve having to take apart your truck in anyway. Find yourself a grabber tool such as RAM-PRO 36” Flexible Grabber Pickup Tool I only recommended this one because it's 36" and under $10. You will be able to insert this directly into your vent outlet. I'm not saying to attempt grab at anything. Just see how far you can insert it. It's possible your vents are clogged. With what I have no idea. Insert carefully and slowly. You may also want to listen while outside your car, with your head in open hood and heater motor on to check for venting leak and such sounds. These are simple and very inexpensive diy checks and you will have a grabber tool for whatever, if needed, in the future. Stay warm.. Sincerely Sam 2004 Mazda B2300 owner..
My 1988 B2200 puts out great heat, better than my two newer Frontiers.
Nikki - I think the first thing to drive the truck 15 minutes or more, and feel the two heater connections that protrude into the engine compartment at the firewall. They should be HOT.
If both are hot, then your engine thermostat is working, and you have enough coolant in the radiator/system. So next would be to investigate is whether the cables that operate the little flaps or doors are operational. These are on both sides of the center console, best to have a helper move the vent/heat/defrost lever, the temperature lever, the recirculation/outside lever through their movements, and take a look. Unfortunately, this means flashlight and getting under the dash and looking up and to the center on the truck, 2 on one side, 1 on the other. I had a cable slip off on mine once, had to rig up a way to secure the cable on the door/flap operating lever.
Third possibility - if air does not come out the vents (either dash at windshield, dash, or underdash - would be that there are clogs in the air flow system, like leaves, clogged AC evaporator.
