I've just had CX-5 serviced at 18k miles. Service advisor reported a leaking belt tensioner and recommended replacement. I went ahead and let them replace it. I can't find anything to explain why a belt tensioner would leak. I thought they used a spring mechanism to keep tension. Can anyone confirm whether or not belt tensioners have liquid that can leak?
It was under warranty, so letting them replace was probably a good call. Looks like the CX-5 design uses a 'damper' mechanism that helps with vibration, similar to a mini shock absorber. I'd assume this was the leak point.
