How Much Mileage from Original Set of Brake Pads?

I just got back from the 22,500 mile maintenance on my 2016.5 CX-5 GT. They reported front brakes at 50% and rear brakes at 60%. This refers to the wear on the pads, right?

They told me when they drop to 40% or below, I should have them replaced. It seems a little "soon" to be at 50-60% since I've got only 22K miles on the car. Is this normal?

What's the typical lifetime (in miles) on original pads, assuming normal driving?

Having worked at a Honda dealership for 38 years i've seen a lot of brake job's done, I would hope they are saying the percentage is to the wear indicator which is a little tab that will scrape on rotor to let you know it's time for pads and not the backing plate. but with brakes the manufacturers are looking at having brakes that don't squeak not so much how long they last also you need to factor in your own driving habits this can cause brakes to wear also are you a last minute braker? I'm True believer in staying with only O.E. pads I work at Honda but get all my parts online for my mazda if you need pads in the future check this place out i save a ton of money each time i buy my parts here https://www.mazdapartsprime.com/ and best thing is their factory O.E. parts.
