2018 CX5 GT Lifter noise

OK...here goes...

2018 CX5 GT 2.5 with 31000 kms. Recently (3 weeks) my engine has developed what Mazda is saying is a lifter noise (ticking). The initial repair was some sort of PCM reflash and it worked for about 8 hours. Noise came back...but randomly...hot, cold, idling, under load etc. Went back in last week and just got it back. Service manager says they once again reflashed the PCM and that I should monitor it - but that was direction given my Mazda tech line. My question is this - how can the PCM cause the lifters to make a super loud ticking? I understand that a low oil pressure can cause it - but thats not the issue. Can someone in the know gimme the lifters / PCM in the skyactiv 2.5 for dummies explanation and secondly - is this bad? Never had a new car do this - ever in my 46 years - and im fairly mechanically proficient.

cheers and thanks

Chris
